On paper, the premise is strong and has all the essential elements for a compelling crime thriller. A lone visually impaired character at the center of a heinous crime, residing in a sleepy deserted town is good enough to create nervous tension and paranoia. Movies like Don’t Breathe (2016) used this type of script perfectly. Alas, Sonam’s slow OTT debut is devoid of that nervous jittery energy. Makhija’s lethargic direction lacks urgency or fear, and the film’s inept lead actor only adds to the damage.

The film is produced by Sujoy Ghosh and at some places, Blind possesses the painful atmosphere of Badla, but director Shome Makhija, who has also written the screenplay, does not feel the need to throw any twists in the story. All this is a battle between the angel and the devil and a never ending battle. A few lines uttered by Kohli will take you back to Asuri’s days not too long ago and a faithful dog refreshes the memories of Teri Meherbaniyan who was in 1985. That was the year Anil Kapoor starred in Meri Jung. Why is it mentioned here? Maybe because the end of this movie becomes a battle after a point.

Will he be able to find the truth amidst the darkness? Well, yes, but the little elements give it a heavier movie feel than a sophisticated, cutting-edge thriller. Consequently, the climax doesn’t quite deliver the expected suspenseful moments.
In short, the film Blind fails to provide the expected suspense.

If you are a fan of Sonam Kapoor, then you must give her attempt to try something new a chance. She has acted honestly in the film and you can feel her pain in the film. Overall, if you like crime dramas with psychological elements, then you can give it a watch, but don’t get your hopes up too high. This could have been a better watch if more intense nuances were added to the film; however, it won’t seem like a waste of time.

The script is very predictable and very shallow. It won’t keep you guessing at all. Jump edges don’t scare you either. The characters seem very underdeveloped. Vinay Pathak’s character Prithvi Khanna is the typical police inspector who aims to provide comic relief but doesn’t quite fit in despite the actor doing a good job. In the end, Blind looks dragged. Shortening the film wouldn’t hurt at all.

Blind is not the sharpest crime thriller. It has its drawbacks. It’s bleak, bleak and bleak. But you can give Elsa, the most gorgeous brown Labrador, a chance. She brings the sweetest respite to this chilling tale of the human spirit and revenge. If you have some free time after exploring Threads, missed watching Sonam, or are still not tired of crime thrillers, then go to Blind.
