The Bird Box: Barcelona Review

The Bird Box: Barcelona (2023) Movie reviewOR movie written and directed by Alex Pastor AND David Pastor and playing Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, bald diego, Famous Schubert, Alejandra Howard, Patrick created, Lola who has, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner, Leonardo Barraglia, Abdelatif Hwidar, Manel Lunell AND Karoline Meijer.

Principals Alex and David Pastor’s Bird box: Barcelona it’s a nightmarish vision come to life that has scenarios that may initially appear to have been done before, but certainly not on this scale. The film opens in a world where people kill themselves when they witness hallucinations caused by a deadly force. It is a scary scenario that people will have to wear glasses to avoid witnessing things that would lead them to take their own lives. Blindfolding is common in the world the film presents as characters search for food and shelter while unable to see what’s around them. While the film is definitely thought-provoking and skillfully made, the film sometimes suffers from too many characters, some of whom get lost in the shuffle.

In the beginning we meet Sebastian (Mario Casas) and his daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard). Anna is enjoying skating until their peace is interrupted by a group of thugs who viciously attack Sebastian. When they encounter more survivors of the phenomenon the film focuses on, Sebastian suggests he can get generators to keep them comfortable. We are familiar with the concept of “viewers” who are people who do not kill themselves when they see the power that the film presents to its audience. Sebastian turns out to be such a “seer”. The secret is revealed that his daughter is not actually real, but a vision of him. Fast forward to nine months ago.

There is a great scene where the film shows people falling onto the train tracks in a shock of chaos where all hell is breaking loose. Barcelona has become the very definition of disaster and these scenes are expertly done. Sebastian saves Anna, but loses his wife temporarily. We meet the eccentric Father Esteban (Leonardo Sbaraglia), who has some unique religious beliefs behind the events. We see how Anna had died and how Sebastian is able to see her because of his special abilities.

Soon, Sebastian meets Rafa (Patrick Criado), Octavio (Diego Calva i BABYLON) who is an expert in physics, a doctor named Claire (the terrific Georgina Campbell e barbarian) and young Sofia (Naila Schuberth) who has lost her mother. There is supposed to be a castle that could be a safe zone where people have found refuge and our characters go there to see if this place is, indeed, what it is supposed to be. Claire then learns of Sebastian’s ability to see the entity in question and tries to keep Sofia free from harm. However, Sebastian claims he has their best interests in mind.

This film is a very graphic and disturbing depiction of the events it portrays. Particularly terrifying are the images of one of the characters, whose eyes seem to be sewn shut. However, the production budget seems to be too generous here to bring out all the themes of the film in the most effective way possible. This movie is a little more believable than M. Night Shyamalan’s HAPPENS which was completely different from the material, but also had the concept of a large group of people committing suicide. This theme of mass suicide is just the tip of it Bird box: Barcelonaiceberg i. This new film has a lot on its mind and is not afraid to delve into complex territory that will leave the audience in deep thought, especially with some of the religious themes it proposes.

The cast is solid. Casas is charming in his physically challenging role, while Howard is well suited to play the mysterious girl who creates a lot of depth and complexity within the story. Campbell and Schuberth are also very capable and give nuanced performances. Campbell’s character explores what exactly is seen by those who witness the force the film proposes. Campbell is truly a standout character in a cast full of talented performers. So good that Bird box: Barcelona it is at times (and there are some pretty exciting scenes), it’s also a bit uncomfortable to watch and can leave the audience thinking at times that the filmmakers may have bitten off more than they could chew in terms of subject matter heavy. This is by no means an easy watch, despite the evidence of a big budget and characters viewers can relate to.

However, this new photo is a solid companion to Sandra Bullock actress 2018. The Bird Box. The concept of eyes that these films make visible is scary enough to actualize. While the science fiction elements of Bird box: Barcelona are scary in their own right, the movie works and is at its best as the kind of movie that will draw audiences in and make them wonder what people are seeing in movies that die that makes them take their lives. The film doesn’t visualize much in that particular direction, but instead leaves a lot to the viewer’s imagination, essentially making the whole concept that much scarier.

ASSESSMENT: 6.5/10
