Manchester United have some competition in the race to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund- after it emerged that PSG have submitted a rival bid for the 20-year-old

PSG have submitted a £43million bid for Rasmus Hojlund in an attempt to hijack Manchester United’s move for the Atalanta striker.

The Red Devils made a verbal offer of £43m plus £9m in add-ons for the 20-year-old Denmark international on Wednesday, having initially had a players plus cash offer rejected earlier in the month, though it’s understood Atalanta are holding out for more.

According to The Athletic, PSG aren’t prepared to be dragged into a bidding war and are likely to walk away if their bid isn’t accepted.

Hojlund, who scored nine Serie A goals last season, has indicated to Atalanta that he wants to leave the club this summer – something which could force the Italians to lower their asking price.

United are in desperate need of a new centre forward, and following news that Kylian Mbappe has decided not to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes, so are PSG.

The Ligue 1 giants put the Frenchman up for sale earlier this week and accepted a £259m offer for him from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, though it’s understood Mbappe has no intention of speaking to them.

United have an advantage over PSG in that they’ve already agreed personal terms with Hojlund, though the French champions shouldn’t have any trouble following suit should their bid be accepted.
