Sony/Stage 6 Films/Blumhouse’s Secret: The Red Door may have stolen no. 1 away from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at the weekend box office, but Angel Studios’ indie wonder The Sound of Freedom earned about $4 million on Monday.
All this before Paramount/Skydance’s Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One blows all the air out of the market with a projected $90M 5-day opening (predictions started at 2pm today).
The Red Door was second Monday with $3.5 million at 3,188 locations, bringing its total to $36.5 million. the voice of freedom which opened on Tuesday, July 4, brings its total to $45.6 million. The Red Door opened to $33 million over the weekend INDIAit is 27.4 million dollars.
Again, many are surprised The Sound of Freedom like an indie film from an indie distributor breaking through at the box office. Ticket sales have been driven by right-wing groups, and Angel Studios has had its faith-based core. All this reminds you american sniper, but on an indie level.
Monday’s win here for The Sound of Freedom creates optimism for the possible second run of the weekend. The pic’s first day was clearly loaded with over $14 million, including previews and earnings, down 72% on Wednesday’s second day of $4 million.
The Sound of Freedom Kaviezel stars as former Homeland Security agent Tim Ballard, who takes it into his own hands to rescue kidnapped children around the globe.
Angel Studios is adding 300 theaters to its current count of 2,852 locations.
