Paramount invested heavily in the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and the film is making steady progress in its race to recoup costs. After one week in theaters, the seventh installment in the long-running action franchise has passed a major milestone at the global box office and is just days away from shooting past its reported $290 million production budget.
Dead Reckoning Part One has made $91 million domestically and another $168 million from foreign markets, for a global total of $259 million. The film is looking to cross the $100 million mark domestically before entering its second weekend, where it will no doubt take a hit or two. Mainly due to massive production costs—Paramount spent millions more on its worldwide marketing—Dead ReckoningThe solid worldwide opening of ‘su was perceived as a little disappointing. To be clear, the film grossed over $230 million worldwide in its extended five-day debut, but its $78 million domestic tally fell short of the $90 million it was projected to achieve in its debut weekend.
With protagonist Tom Cruise as the legendary spy Ethan Hunt, Dead Reckoning Part One would settle for nothing less than the title of the franchise’s highest-grossing film. This record currently stands with Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which ended its global run with nearly $800 million worldwide in 2018. Since then, Cruise has outdone himself; of last year Top Gun: Maverick ended up becoming the biggest film of his career, grossing over $1.4 billion globally, en route to a Best Picture Oscar nomination.
The film has huge costs to recover
That said, even Maverick it didn’t cost that much Dead Reckoning Part One, mainly because it ended production before the pandemic, which drove up costs across the industry. HOW Dead Reckoning Part One, 2023 has seen several big-budget studio films that have had mixed results at the box office. until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a hit with nearly 850 million dollars worldwide, films such as Flash, Transformers: Rise of the BeastsAND Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny have all either weak or bombed outright.
It is too early to say how Dead Reckoning Part One results in the long run, but the film’s strong critical and audience reception, combined with the fact that older titles like it tend to have legs, bodes well for its future.
