An unusual lead pair – Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur – and a quirky plot hinged on an odd couple lend an element of freshness to Tiku Weds Sheru, a well-intentioned but splashy black comedy that alternates between unequal between the comic and the grave. With its novelty wearing off quickly and its wide-eyed characters bogged down in the muck of the script, the film struggles with both momentum and our stamina. In the first 30 minutes, Tiku Weds Sheru swings nicely. By half it weakens significantly. It ends up huffing and puffing its way to a not-so-surprising climax.

Tiku Weds Sheru completely fails to deliver the satire it intended to bring out with its quirky characters. The roles aren’t well defined, while even the vulnerable scenes don’t have much impact or punch. However, it can be a good watch if you leave logic behind. The pacing of the story is uneven, with some sequences dragging while others are rushed. The climax could have been better. The makers really try to show the struggles and sufferings of newcomers in Bollywood and in a city like Mumbai, somewhat pointless.

Writer-director Sai Kabir’s Tiku marries Sheru, bringing to life a familiar saga of the film industry with an unlikely romance and a lost con game. The marriage dynamic between Sheru (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Tiku (Avneet Kaur) survives the film’s clumsy plot, uneven humor and poorly sketched supporting characters.
